My Dragon Fish keeps puting his head abover water, whats he doing?

My Dragon Fish keeps swimming up above surface, it jumped out when i had the lid open. He remains with his head above water for a while... sometimes he holds his breath or doesn't breath all the time. i dont think he's sick though?
