Vampire Encyclopedias: J. Gordon Melton or Matthew Bunson?

I'm sort of into vampires...okay, REALLY into vampires, but i dont know very much about them and i was hoping to get a book more about the myths/truths of vampires rather than just things about vampires in movies and literature. The Vampire Book by J Gordon Melton has reviews on amazon.com that say there's a lot about movies and personal opinions in it, but the reviews for Bunson's work says that its a good second choice, but the Vampire Book would be a better first choice. I'm not seriously studying vampires or anything, but i'm just wanting a fun book on the subject that teaches me about it. if you have any other books that may fit my purpose, please let me know the title and/or author. (laughs) and does anyone know if there's ever going to be a reprinting of The Lost Boys novel? I'll tell you that i'm not very enthusiastic about buying a book for fifty bucks.
