I can't choose between a Fusion and a Sonata. I drive lots of highway/rough roads in winter. Which is better?

Or would something completely different be better, preferably not an SUV? It will have to be used; I don't want to pay more than $10,000. Must be dependable and sturdy with lots of get up and go! Not to mention low gas mileage. Thanks.
