Can you sign into Yahoo Messenger using a AT&T account and how? Mine wont work.?

I would like to use my yahoo messenger and AT&T account for the same thing instead o creating a whole nother account for yahoo messenger but i've tried about everything to get it to work so i dont know what to do now please email me back ASAP.
